I’m Jianqiu Xu, a registered psychologist based in Eastwood and Chatswood, Sydney. I work from the Mind and Emotion Centre on Rowe Street, where I see individuals, couples and families who want practical, lasting change rather than endless talking.
My training started at Macquarie University, and since then I’ve spent my entire career in private practice helping people move through anxiety, low mood, relationship conflict, work stress and the quieter struggles that don’t always have a name. I’m particularly drawn to couples work—helping partners stop the same painful cycles and actually feel heard again—and to supporting people from migrant and multicultural backgrounds who often carry extra layers of pressure and expectation.
What you’ll get in a session with me is straightforward: I listen without judgment, cut through the noise quickly, and give you tools you can use the same day. I draw from evidence-based approaches (CBT, ACT, EFT for couples, schema-focused work when needed), but I’m not wedded to any single model. My only rule is that it has to work for you, in your real life, not just in the therapy room.
I’m fully registered with AHPRA (general registration) and an approved SIRA provider (No. 18263), which means I can also see clients under workers compensation or CTP schemes when required.
Outside of the office I’m usually walking my slightly overweight cavoodle, trying to keep my sourdough starter alive, or losing spectacularly to my eight-year-old at Mario Kart. Normal life keeps me grounded and reminds me every day why this work matters.
If you’re looking for someone who will be direct, respectful and focused on results rather than years of open-ended therapy, let’s talk. You can reach me on 0438 398 989 or jianqiu.xu@mecentre.com.au. First session is about seeing whether we click—nothing more, nothing less.
Looking forward to meeting you.
